Cuddling With Your Dog Is Good Therapy

There have been many studies on the benefits of cuddling with your dog, and their findings are the same.  They include:

  • It causes the human brain to produce oxytocin, otherwise known as the "love hormone", which increases feelings of relaxation, trust, and empathy while reducing stress and anxiety.  When oxytocin levels are elevated, the heart rate calms down, cortisol (stress) levels drop, and a person lowers their risk of experiencing a stroke.
  • It stimulates the release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, which may make you feel happier.
  • It's a mood-booster and relieves depression, anxiety, sadness and even pain.  This is why dogs are taken on visits to nursing homes and hospitals with sick children.
  • It gives your dog a boost too.

According to The Spruce Pets, some dog breeds are cuddlier than others.  Check out their list of the 10 Best Dog Breeds for Cuddling and see if you agree.
